Brecon Beacons Traverse Night Hike
5.34am..... Its starting to get light. The start seems a lot further back than the 20+ miles it actually was. Yet the early light does more than make the terrain easier to see. It warms the mind, banishing the things that trouble us about the dark and gives us energy renewed. Thoughts turn to finishing rather than just keeping going, to a decent breakfast instead of hill snacks, but keep focused - theres still a way to go till Dawn and the finish...
This challenge takes on 40km of the some of the toughest terrain the Brecon Beacons (Worlds 5th Dark Sky Reserve) has to offer, from rough open moorland and forest tracks to mountain paths and boggy trails. This hike aims to take in the mighty peaks of Pen Y Fan (886m), Cribyn (795m) and Fan Y Big (715m). Starting above Glyntawe and picking its way across the Brecon Beacons, the route heads broadly eastwards meeting with the support vehicle at various points for warm food and drink. The aim is to finish next to Talybont Reservoir, just as dawn breaks. It’s then off for a well earned breakfast at a local cafe.
